Intuition: the original self-care

Intuition in action, even when people aren’t consciously aware of it, is one of life’s quiet miracles. This summer, while visiting my hometown on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, I witnessed it in the simplest, most beautiful way. Rabat is a bustling city where the streets are always alive with activity and stress a constant companion for many.

A modern metropolis that encroaches on the centuries-old Medina with its cobblestone alleyways and rammed-earth ramparts. Modernity pressing in on tradition. A culture layered on top of another — the first, introduced by colonisers in a rapid and forceful way; the second, developed over centuries, slowly, organically. This collision has created a kind of cultural unrest and inner chaos. Some have even described it as a fractured culture, a split consciousness.

And yet, as the day winds down, something magical happens. Hundreds of people flock to the coastal roads overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. They either sit in their cars or set up chairs, and for at least half an hour, they simply watch the sunset. Pure magic — to watch them watch the sunset. The vastness of the ocean, mirroring the expansiveness of the soul. The sun’s warm golden glow helping lighten the day’s weight and triggering the production of melatonin to prepare us for rest.

This collective ritual is a testament to our sacred human design: forever guiding us back to balance and harmony. It is a testament to the strength of our inner guidance, our intuition — steadily steering us toward what is good for us, whether we are fully aware of it or not.

To choose to live by the light of intuition is the most sacred form of self-care.

What a great read and beautiful reminder. Thank you! I couldn’t agree more! I have felt the same lately - unplanned desires that intuition revealed as subconscious needs, which my body, soul, and spirit naturally embraced. I experience something similar with food, often finding myself drawn to ingredients or herbs I never reached for before.

Yes! Foods we crave are often intuitive nudges that indicate to us what our body needs or lacks. The more we honour our body's needs, the more it will speak to us and the more coherently and clearly we will hear it. This means: a beautifully functioning immune system and health that radiates from every cell in our body.
